In Loving Memory
Satnam Rakkar, fondly known to his loved ones as Sodhi, passed away suddenly on May 1, 2017 at 44 years young after a courageous battle against cancer.
Sodhi was born in India on November 22, 1972. In 1992, he moved to Canada with his family and attended Humber College.
Sodhi is survived by his wife and best friend, Kulbir, to whom he was married for 20 years and their daughters Anisha (16) and Aleena (14). Sodhi was an extremely loving husband and proud father who was always very involved in all aspects of his daughters’ lives. Whether it was academics or dance competitions, Sodhi would support them and encourage them to excel – which they did. As a family, they loved to travel, cook, watch movies together and host family events.
He also leaves behind his father Ajit Singh and brothers Avtar Rakkar and Krishan Rakkar (Naveen). He is deeply mourned by his chachaji Charan Rakkar (Balvinder) along with their daughters Kiran Jutla (Narinderpal), Navita Rakkar and Sarina Rakkar. He was adored by his bhuaji Darshan Kandola (Gulzar) and their children Lisa (Jamie), Tony (Mandeep) and Amanpaul. “Sodhi Chachaji” was much loved by his nephews Jasvir Rakkar, Barinder Rakkar, Aman Rakkar, Aaron Rakkar, Arjan Jutla, Kieren Lewis and nieces Amita Rakkar, Simran Jutla, Ria Kandola, Jeena Kandola, Maya Lewis and Nika Lewis. His legacy of love and laughter lives on through many more family and friends. We feel blessed to have had him in our lives.
Sodhi is preceded in death by his mother, Rattan Kaur.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be given to Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation. The family of Satnam Rakkar wishes to thank doctors and nurses at Princess Margaret Hospital and Toronto General Hospital for the care they provided.
God saw you getting tired
And a cure was not to be
So he put His arms around you
And whispered "Come to me."

With tearful eyes we watched you
As you slowly slipped away
And though we loved you dearly
We couldn't make you stay.

Your golden heart stopped beating
Your tired hands put to rest
God broke our hearts to prove to us
He only takes the best.
